I guess the key issue here is to actually write stuff on your website that is so interesting and helpful that it will attract "natural" links from a wide variety of websites. With quality content you shouldn't have to worry about Panda update or any of the future updates that Google will launch to remove irrelevant pages from the top 10 search results :) Well written and informative post.
